Russell to get "Mitty" on the fast track again
30 May 2006

According to Variety, it seems like the remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" may be back in business. The project has been in New Line’s wish list for quite some time but the previous combination of Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and a script by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, didn’t succeed to bring "Mitty" to life. In a latest development, however, "Mask" director Chuck Russell, was reported to have made a deal with the production company to re-write the script and direct it.

If Russell manages to pull off the difficult job of updating "Mitty" to contemporary times, there’s a very good chance that Jim Carrey will take the lead role as the timid, daydreaming Mitty, originally portrayed by Danny Kaye.

Russell is said to begin working on the script as soon as he finishes directing Kim Basinger in the supernatural thriller "Bless the Child" for Paramount. Principal photography is very tentatively set to start early next year.
