Jim Wants You to Chill Out

According to this blurb, Jim thinks people spend too much time focusing on the wrong things in life.

Between you, me and the lamp post, I find this man really confusing sometimes. I think his heart is in the right place, but isn't it a bit hypocritical for someone who has already reached his dream, already has his big house, doesn't have to worry about his kid's future or his retirement, to tell other people NOT to focus on that?

Please Jim, if you can do it, why not encourage other people to do it too? Why not say, you can have your dream, as long as you realize the important things in life are family. Maybe that's what he meant, but it doesn't sound like it to me. Instead he says, we should forget about making money! Oye! Who's going to pay for my bills, Mr. Carrey???

I just find it annoying to take financial advice from someone who doesn't have any financial pressure.

The thing is you can take these interviews with a pinch of salt ...they can edit his remarks to make him say anything, I'm sure he is very aware of everyone knowing he has enough money to keep a small country going and tries very hard not to preach.

I told my mom the other day, " forget everything I say today, because I just thought that, but it doesn't mean I'll think (feel) the same thing tomarrow." or something like that. I meant don't quote me and tell a bunch of people that's what I think, just because I said it today. Does that make sense?

well i'm gonna be the defence here.......Jim became famous doing what he enjoys....his career was almost 'out of his hands' The public just responded to Jimmy doing his thing........and it was the public which put him on the entertainment throne...........he wasn't Bill Gates or Donald Trump, making ruthless, harsh decisions........he became successful just by being himself and choosing projects he liked.......he worked really hard for it too but it's as if it was almost pre-ordained from the start......(maybe i'm too much into fate and stuff though....... )

But of course he has a valid point..........TV and magazines are full of aspirational goods most of us will never be in a position to afford........and a lot of people are unhappy with that.....It's a very materialistic society...........and it doesn't seem to make people any happier.....we need to take stock, step back and REALLY appreciate the little things.......

I knew my comments were going to get that reaction! And I love to play devil's advocate.

I guess I'm going through some major PMS. But lately, I've noticed quite a few little things in the news that Jim has said that has irked me. I guess he says things without even realizing how they may be perceived.

Who knows? Maybe he doesn't say any of these things, and it's just his publicist that thinks it makes a great "feel good" story!

Sometimes it seems that celebrities have very little control with how their "image" is being manipulated -- not only by the press, but by the people who work for them, too. An interesting angle.

think of, I think I would think of my family and friends, and how I would miss them. The house, money, car, job, would be of very little importance. Registering what is important. Yes, we do have to live but sometimes all the THINGS take over instead of the valuable time we can spend with others. Perhaps asking the internal question "What is really important?"

I think Jim is speaking from a standpoint of something to strive for and to aim towards-
That it is better to focus on family and less on material achievement, you can't take it with you after all,
so it is more of a choice of one's priorities rather than a black or white situation...

In Melissa Carrey's Declaration that was written in 2003 Melissa said that Jim was supposed have Jane every thursday to sunday but he actually only got to see her 30 days a year. So it sounds to me that now Jane is off to college he is resenting the fact thay he didn't push work aside and spend more time with her while she was in LA. 30 days a year is not a lot of time to spend with your child.

Maybe he is not talking about people who have to work long hours. Maybe he is talking about the people who work long hours just so they they can buy a mercedes. Or maybe he is talking about people who are addicted to working like he is.

I think he has a point there. But of course us mere mortals do have to worry about paying bills too. Lol.

I like this little story. I think it sums up how life should be viewed and lived.

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous - yes.

The professor then produced a bottle of wine from under the table and proceeded to pour the entire contents into the jar - effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognise that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, and your children - Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, your house, and your car.

The sand is everything else. The small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to look after your health. Take your family out and have fun. There will always be time to go to work and do the other stuff.

"Take care of the rocks first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a bottle of wine.

This is too much for me to think about right now.

I both agree and somewhat disagree with Jim's point.

I think that the problems aren't created entirely by people themselves, but sometimes MANAGERS who expect too much from employees.

I would think it would be awfully hard to do so many interviews, can you imagine? Try to say something profound at every interview, and even in everyday life. I know for me, I can have an opinion on something and low and behold someone may share their opposin thoughts, and I have no problem revisiting my original idea, as I could be wrong. I guess that's why I like talking with people you can learn so munch about yourself and others. It smooths out those jagged edges you have when you're young, you become a well rounded person and less judgemental. As you age, you realized you don't know a darn thing about anything. Just happy to be alive
