A BIG Surprise In "Bruce Almighty"!

Postby Another Lion » Fri May 23, 2003 11:40 pm

To all of you "Ace" fans out there. Jim has heard your prayers. Jim is giving you what you want within "Bruce Almighty". It's a nice 3-5 min. long sequence of scenes. I'm not going to tell you when or where it occurs, or what happens, because Tom, Steve and Jim has woven it within the film's story masterfully, and it came as a HUGE shocker to me. And I'm NOT talking about the "Alrighty, then!" line (as I knew about that in advance)!

I was NOT expecting it. When I saw AND heard it, I was blown away. In fact, EVERYBODY in the theater I was in was shocked. It was the FUNNIEST reaction by the audience of the entire movie. Yes, it's THAT BLATANT and that unexpected.

Jim, Tom, Steve. THANK YOU. You didn't have to do it, but you DID. I LOVED "Bruce Almighty" and that was just icing on the cake. Jim, THANKS for "pandering" to your audience - just this once. This "Carreyholic" caught all of it in its glory, enjoyed every blessed second of it, and TRULY appreciates it.

Or, in the words of Bruce, "It was B-E-A-U-Tiful!"

Carrey ON!
BCDavis
"You need to grab life by the horns, wrestle it to the ground, and live it!" LMAO!!! Okay! Okay!

BEGIN SPOILERS (If you dare, highlight large, white blank area)

Please recall the "revenge against the gang in the alleyway" scene.

Didn't it seem ODD to you that Jim stopped acting like "Bruce" and started acting like a certain "Pet Detective"? The clincher for me was when Jim said the EXACT same line to the gang members that he said to the Little Warrior in AV:WNC ("I do not wish to fight you..." the EXACT same way he said it in AV:WNC, same attitude, same tone of voice, same expression.

At first I was thrown for a loop, but as I continued to listen and observe, I found that "Bruce" was gone, and "Ace" was in the house. Then, a certain little mokey friend of Ace's joins in on all the fun. (Even a guy down in the front rows of my theatre decided to yell out, "Hey! It's Spike!"

I just shook my head and wondered how far Jim was gonna take this. He continued on. (Enough so that another fine indivudual down in the front rows yelled out, "He's doin' Ace!" I even saw Jim walk out the alleyway with a touch of an "Ace" swagger to his step.

The LAST scene in the alleyway, the framing shot of Jim and Spike standing together (a standard Ace film shot), has Jim say the line EXACTLY like "Ace" would, "You wanna head on home, little buddy?" Spike takes his leave, we see where he goes, the gangster drops to the ground, we look back at Jim again.

Jim's attitude has changed, his posture has changed, his walk has changed. He's "miraculously" back to being "Bruce" for the rest of the film. The "Ace 3 Mini-Movie" within "Bruce Almighty" is done. The only things missing from this "Ace" sequence are Ace's hair, wardrobe and theme music. EVERYTHING else "Ace" is there for us to enjoy.
END SPOILERS

Now, I checked on this with somebody who was in the film because, frankly, I thought I was being mistaken and couldn't believe it. She verified that YES, this was intentionally done by Jim and crew, and that it was supposed to be a big surprise. Then she proceeded to laugh at me when I told her it worked and I nearly had a stroke in the theatre (along with the rest of the Jim Carrey fans in the theatre).

There ya go. It was not Morgan Freeman saying "Alrighty, then!" (I knew about that a long time in advance.)

Carrey ON!
BCDavis
"You need to grab life by the horns, wrestle it to the ground, and live it!" hahaha! Oh yes, now I see... i knew it had something to do with the monkey scene!

Jim even gave his hometown, my hometown, of Toronto, a shout out that rocked the theater in applause! One of the scenes in the beginning of the movie, Bruce is watching TV and the announcer says "...and the Buffalo Sabres were defeated again, by the Toronto Maple Leafs"

The theater jumped with excitement! Thanks Jim, for satisfying your hometown crowd!!
**---------------------------------------------------**
Visit my comic book movies website. Re: Movie for Carreyholics?

Postby Another Lion » Mon May 26, 2003 9:42 pm

I really do think that ""Bruce Almighty" had some stuff written into it just for us Carreyholics. Stuff that we would pick up on. Little FAQs about him that we would get.

1. Past Carrey film references. hehehehehe
2. His love of hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leaves.
3. The grilled cheese sandwich with ketchup. "Ooo! My favie!"
4. Giving us a couple new "catch phrases" to learn and use over and over and over again. (Jim, you may rue the day you did this. Especially when your fans come up to you and greet you with them every single time. hehehehehehe)

Q: Is it just me, or do you think that Jim does the "catch phrase" thing on purpose? I mean, come on, be honest. "Alrighty, then!" became second nature to us in conversation. Talking with ANYBODY, fan or not. Maybe not the exact same way Jim says it, but the phrase is still there. LOL! Nowadays, it's just slang. Kinda creepy, really.

For me, the "catch phrase", "B-E-A-U-Tiful!" is gonna rank right up there. It's odd, because none of Jim's other "catch phrases" became a part of my vocabulary. Just "Alrighty, then!" The "good" thing from "Bruce Almighty" didn't stick with me. But "B-E-A-U-Tiful" did. I have a nice hunch that phrase will become a part of my vocabulary.

So, to all of you out there in the Carreyverse, what phrases have become an everyday usage in YOUR vocabulary?

Carrey ON!
BCDavis
"You need to grab life by the horns, wrestle it to the ground, and live it!" When he said "And... that's the way... uh-huh, uh-huh... I... like it!", it did sounded like The Mean One, just a lil bit.

I also felt that there's alot more to the movie that we never saw. Remember those set pics of Jim showing Jen flowers and him carrying her? We don't see that at all! And in the TV spot, after God says he's granted Bruce all his powers. Bruce turns around and yells upon seeing God back in his janitor uniform.

**sigh** The DVD better have these extras. Or there'll be hell to pay
*T.a.K.e K.a.R.e N.o.W -|- B.u.H ~ B.y.e T.H.e.N*
