SHAGGY HAIR and a beard didn't keep Jim Carrey from being spotted around town this weekend.

The comic actor took in Saturday's U2 show at the Wachovia Center from a seat in front of the soundboard. He was later seen backstage having his picture taken with U2 frontman Bono.

Sunday, Carrey and a pal turned up ticketless at the sold-out Salvador Dali 9 p.m. tour at the Art Museum. But the "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" star was recognized by museum staff, who comped his and his friend's visit.

The funnyman was low-key, but did drift into his old character as the Riddler from "Batman Forever," when a guard complimented his performance in that film.

Carrey and his buddy stayed till 11, when the museum closed.

I wonder how a Dali exhibit is? I didn't "get" Dali in art class in high school.

I always scratched my head and said, "Que?"

I LOVED Magritte, though...but I have a feeling they are very different.

technically yes.............theory similiar.........execution different....Dali superior.........art history and philosophy were my majors....
we have Dali's cruxifiction in Glasgow and the first time i saw it i burst into tears........
I really didn't expect that at all................

Oh gosh, I was just looking at some of the paintings and I had a funny recollection. At one of the recent trivia nights, they asked the name of Dali's painting with the melty clocks and I could NOT come up with "The Persistence of Memory". And it was driving me to distraction. All I could guess was "A Brief History of Time".

Which, was, of course SO WRONG.

Anyway, back to Magritte. They are not as profound and tortured as Dali's, they are more whimsical, but does that make them mediocre? Ok, I'm biased, since I lived in Belgium for awhile, I got to go wander around that museum whenever I wanted.

This was my favorite, because I think it's the first time I really looked at a painting long enough to "get it" on my own.

On that note...I'm fleeing to the shower. My grandma has opened a package of peanut butter Oreos at 8:30 in the morning. I don't know why she wants to torture me like that.

if anyone is from around philly, they should really check out the dali exhibit if they have any interest in his work. i believe this is the same exhibit i stumbled on in rome a few years back and it has since been in venice. His works are amazing - some very disturbing - but he was and is worthy of his acclaim!

it's nice to see Jim appreciating his artwork also.

ok, on a personal note: that had to be one AWESOME evening - first the U2 concert THEN dali exhibit. that would be the perfect day with or without Jim

yes, i do believe you could buy some of them. it was in 1999 that i saw it - memory is a bit fuzzy (good italian vino!)

I played the Joshua Tree until I wore it out in high school. I haven't bought any U2 since then. Two of my recent compilation CD's have "Vertigo" as the first song. It's great to listen to on the back porch when the wind is whipping.

I felt the same way about Dali, until i went tot the Getty Museum and saw some of his sketches. The amazing thing about Dali is that he could draw near photographic portraits of people, yet somehow he painted mostly surrealist scribble. Some of it I love, some of it make me say, "Que?" but his sketches caught me way off guard. I gained complete respect for him.
