Man on the Moon

Postby The Weird Dutch Girl Sven » Fri Jul 06, 2001 8:11 am

Hey don't you boys and girls like Man on the Moon???
I do... And that's an understatement. I just recently bought it on DVD, cause I missed it at the cinema. And I was impressed..... Ofcourse I already had a lot of respect for Jim Carrey... After seeing Man on the Moon it increased with at least 500%

Over here in Europe Andy Kaufman wasn't as well known as in the US, but from the internet I got a pretty good impression of him... And Jim Carrey really gets into his skin! (Dutch expression) And the main purpose of the movie Man on the Moon was to bring people to express emotions... Well... I did! I've been crying for the last 5 minutes of the movie or so...When he began so sing "Friendly World" it became even worse... I think that, if anyone can reach that sort of emotions... he (and the rest of the cast) made it to a movie which certainly deserved an Academy award as far as I'm concerned.

On the DVD there's also an episode of "behind the spotlight" and they interviewed the cast and crew.
And everyone who has known Andy Kaufman said that Jim was not playing Andy, he WAS Andy... They even found it a bit scary. He even started to do all of those little things by which a beloved one recognizes the loved one...

To me this is my number one movie...

By the way... I also have the soundtrack, on which Jim also sings a bit... And the Miracle theme is just wonderful...

I like watching Taxi alot, even before The movie came out.
I cried at the end.
That's why the sad face was there.
I'm also a big fan of Chris Llyod, and just Back to the Future in particular (plus HUGE fan of Michael J Fox.) so whenever Chris had a sence I'd point him out to my friends: "Check out his expresion!" Most times it was "What the hell is this guy doing?" about Tony Clifton, but very funny....
Oh...right, this is a Jc board....
Whoops....

I would have to agree with everyone. Man on the Moon was an excellent film, and 1 of my favs.

Alot of (so-called) Carrey fans were dissapointed with that film, saying it wasn't Jim at his funniest or best. thats probably because they were expecting Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey. But thats not what it was. It was Jim playing Andy Kaufman.
In my opinion it WAS Jim at his best, because watching that film it was as if it wasn't Jim at all. It was Andy. I think that it is the ultimate in acting when you completely forget that you are watching an ACTOR playing a ROLE, and you get lost in the film.
Jim did such a great job of becoming Andy in Man on the Moon, i think everyody needs to appreciate that.

Totally!!
Man On The Moon is my all time fav Jim movie simply because it made me cry. If a movie or TV show can make *me* cry then I know its good. Jim did a brilliant job and nobody seemed to notice. Well *I* noticed and I give him two thumbs up!

-Kristin
/////"My wife bought me a Quaji board for Christmas. "Man on the Moon" is actually my favorite Carrey film and yet not that many people have seen it even after 2 years. I keep wondering when it will get its second wind...

MOTM was great!

Postby jbrook » Tue Mar 26, 2002 3:19 am

Highly entertaining, revealing in a few areas, and a wonderful distillation of the essence of Andy through Jim Carrey, Man on the Moon is one of my favorite movies of all time. It deserved much better recognition and damn those responsible for not getting this movie rated PG-13. There's a whole lot of potential Andy fans that were shut out.

Just my two cents.

J. "Man on the Moon" is my absolute favorite Jim Carrey movie!

Besides, I think it helped a great deal to people who had never heard about Andy Kaufman to get to know him (like me --Andy is almost unknown in Spain! )

When I first saw the movie I was amazed at what a good work Jim had done. Actually, I hadn't watched Jim, but this other guy. And I loved his style!

So I did some searching on the web to find out more about Andy (I've seen your page; it's great!) And the more I learnt about him, the more I loved him!

Surely this man was a genius. MOTM rocks

Postby Guest » Sun Apr 13, 2003 2:03 pm

MOTM was not one of Jim's typical movies, and I didn't like it at first, when I went to see it in the movie theater. I just didn't gei it I guess. As it has been said earlier, Andy isn't very known in Europe. Anyways, after I had watched it again on the DVD couple of times I just started to love it moore and moore! It is absolutely awesome. I've even tried to search the original acts of Andy Kaufman (e.g. Mighty Mouse) but can't find any... Suggestions?
< *thumbs up*
